HOLCIM: Deliveries of cement for major national projects

The maintaining of difficult market conditions and pressures both from the level of quantities sold and from prices led to a decrease of 4.3% in the sales level for Holcim Romania in 2013, the local businesses standing at about 200 million EUR annually. For 2014, the company estimates, in an optimistic scenario, the stabilization of the turnover at a level similar to the one recorded a year ago, but a slight decrease is not excluded, given that there are no new major infrastructure projects that will be awarded in the next period of time. Last year, Holcim Romania has delivered concrete for major infrastructure projects such as the motorways from the 4th Pan-European Corridor (batch 2 of Nădlac-Arad section, the first section of Lugoj-Deva, batches 2, 3 and 4 for Orăştie-Sibiu), the railway rehabilitation on sections Curtici-Arad, Vinţu-Coşlariu, Coşlariu-Micăsasa, Aţel-Sighişoara, the execution of the Bucharest subway line 5 (Drumul Taberei-Universitate) and the rehabilitation of national roads (DN56 Craiova-Calafat and DN14 Sibiu-Mediaş-Sighişoara). Holcim Romania has also delivered important quantities of cement for non-residential sites of major projects such as the office buildings Floreasca Park, Green Court Bucharest, Hermes Business Campus, the industrial sites of Emerson from Cluj and Oradea, the Bearings Factory SNR, but also shopping centres like Coresi Tractorul Braşov etc. Starting from the beginning of this year, Holcim Romania businesses are run by François Pétry appointed to this position in the place of Daniel Bach, who recently became Area Manager for South East Asia. At national level, the group has two cement plants in Câmpulung and Aleşd, a grinding station and a cement terminal in Turda, 13 ecological concrete stations, another three of aggregates, two units manufacturing binders and a cement terminal Bucharest, in which about 950 employees work. "In the first three months of 2014 we have seen a slight recovery of the market, compared to the same period in 2013, but it is too early to draw conclusions regarding the evolution of the sector in 2014", said François Pétry.
