METROREX: Investments of nearly 6 billion EUR planned until 2020

Currently, Metrorex, the company that manages the underground transport in the capital city, has six ongoing major infrastructure projects for the expansion of the subway network. These include works on Line 5, with sections Drumul Taberei - Universitate and Universitate - Pantelimon (valued at about two billion EUR), Line 6 – the connection of the subway network with Henri Coandă - Otopeni (one billion EUR), Line 4, on the section Străuleşti Lake – Gara de Nord - Gara Progresu (950 million EUR), line 7 between Voluntari and Bragadiru (about 1.9 billion EUR), Line 3 (Anghel Saligny - Preciziei), on the expansion between Păcii – and Centura de Vest of the capital and Line 2 ( Berceni - Pipera) with extension between Pipera – the area of services and housing Pipera - Tunari. The total planned investments by METROREX until 2020 reach a total of 5.85 billion EUR. The execution works on Line 5 runs from 2011 to 2017, the path length being of 9.035 km while the number of stations will reach 13. Currently, about 40% of the contract value of the works has been accomplished. The timeline of the section Universitate - Pantelimon is between 2013 and 2021 and the tunnel between the nine stations set will have 8.074 km. Line 6, which makes the connection between the underground network and the Henri Coandă – Otopeni airport has an execution time of seven years, and the final commissioning is planned for 2021. The route length reaches 14 kilometers and there will be 12 stations (according to the opinion given by the Ministry of Transport). Currently, the contract is in the stage of preparation of preliminary technical designs and the documentation for the procurement of works. Line 4 between Străuleşti Lake – Gara de Nord - Gara Progresu comprises two sections. The first one, between the extension of Laminorului and Străuleşti Lake should be completed in 2015, the investment duration being of three years. The route length is 2.10 km. Two stations, a depot and parking space are envisioned. Until now, there have been carried out structure works at the Străuleşti depot and the molded walls and excavations have been completed.
