DOORS: Standards in preparation for interior and anti-burglary types

All products used in building construction processes must be certified (by applying the CE mark), including the indoor pedestrian. The new Construction Products Regulation (CPR), recently adopted by the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union, stipulates explicitly that the European mark of conformity (CE) is mandatory in all states of the European Economic Area (EEA). Currently, the standard EN 14351-2 is in draft form. Therefore a set of a few basic elements is presented below, in order to familiarize with the principles underlying the whole process of certification of conformity. It is also useful for manufacturers in order to know exactly what to expect and, especially, when relevant changes will be implemented (which directly affect the operational activity). Harmonized standards governing the manufacture of interior doors are written by members of the technical committee TC 33 "Doors, windows, shutters, building hardware and curtain façades" of the European Committee for Standardization (CEN). Therefore, the purpose of the document analysis is to identify the main independent performance characteristics of the materials constituting the interior doors (models that exhibit fire resistance are excluded from special assessment). It also must clearly indicate that these systems can be installed in escape routes not covered by special regulations fire, and along those pathways that are subject to requirements for noise protection or thermal resistance. The only limits precisely imposed are those related to off air permeability and safety. Other types covered by the current legislation are made of special applications (those doors which play only the role of communication way between adjacent rooms in a building). The EN 14351-2 provisions shall not apply as indicated by the specialists of CEN / TC 33 to the following products: industrial doors, commercial and garage, defined according to the standards EN 14351-1 and pin 16034; assemblies regulated by EN 14351-1; revolving pedestrian interior doors; door sheets sold separately in the marketplace; automatic doors operated in groups 1 and 2.
