ANALYSIS: Strong evolution on the market of LED lighting systems

The local market of electrical equipment and automation stands at over 500 million euro annually, while the value of low voltage components segment (lighting and electrical equipments) is about 120-150 million euro, according to data supplied by the leading companies in the field. Furthermore, a significant share of the demand comes from the construction industry, which currently is placed on a growth trend for the first time since the onset of the recession. In this favorable context, the managers and opinion leaders in the field estimate an advance of 5% on the market in 2015. In recent months, there has been a revival in the residential segment, responsible for sales of electrical materials of about 50 million euro per year. A trend of faster growth was reported regarding the lighting systems using LED technology, sales exceeding 15 million euro during last year. The annual amount of LED systems sector has doubled annually since the launch of this systems on the. Currently, the transition of the lighting solutions from conventional to modern systems represents the most profound change in the electric lighting industry and offers a new way of life and comfort, while substantially reducing the energy consumption. According to estimates of LED-based systems providers, in 2020 Romania could be illuminated with this technology in a very large proportion, but only in the context of a sustainable growth and fiscal and political stability. Implementing this modern lighting system is already replacing conventional technologies used in industrial and commercial buildings, public sector and, recently, in schools, hospitals, office buildings etc. Although in our country the degree of implementation of LED based lighting is far below the average of other European countries, this situation will change on the medium and long term, particularly due to the European Union's strategy for energy efficiency, which will force the replacement until 2020 of all conventional electrical lighting lamps in Member States with light emitting diode (LED).
